Description
Drawing, painting, portraiture and paper-making workshops at my studio in Ditchling, suitable for ages 13 to 103 and all levels of experience – feeling curious and keen is more important than knowing one end of a paintbrush from the other. All workshops will be for small groups, starting at 10am and ending around 4pm. I supply materials and tea, coffee and biscuits – you can either bring a packed lunch or pop to one of our excellent local cafés or pubs.
Drawing and Painting
We’ll begin with some drawing, working from observation, exploring different media, mark-making, scale, viewpoints etc, then you can choose to spend all day drawing or painting, working from the original source, or move towards abstraction, looking at colour, composition, surfaces etc.
Portraiture
After some initial exercises looking at issues specific to drawing faces, you’ll create a number of drawings working from a live model.
Papermaking
We’ll make a number of small examples of plain, decorative, coloured and cast paper, using pulp that you will make – I’ll also have some ready for you to use. There will be the option of making a small vessel if you wish, which can incorporate other elements, natural or manmade.
