Having originally studied at the London College of Printing and at Goldsmith’s College, I taught Art and Design for 15 years from GCSE to degree and post-graduate level. More recently, I completed a three-year course in experimental textile art. I now work and teach from my studio in Ditchling, East Sussex.

Since 2004, I have exhibited each May as part of the Art In Ditchling trail of artists’ open houses during Brighton Festival, when my studio is open during weekends and bank holidays from 11 am to 5 pm, showing my latest paintings, drawings, fine-art prints and handmade cards.
Following advice from central and local government, the 2020 artists’ open houses festival has been postponed until September or October. Revised opening dates will be posted here as soon as they are available.
Free parking is available at the workshops, in the adjacent Macs’ Farm or behind the village hall, a leafy five-minute walk away in the centre of Ditchling, where there are several cafés serving delicious refreshments.
Artist Support Pledge
During the Covid-19 crisis, I’m backing the Artist Support Pledge, which encourages artists to make affordable artwork available to buy, and to multiply the value of their sales by committing to buy work from other artists in turn.
For more details, please see my Instagram page and get in touch through the Contact page if you’d like to buy one of these pieces.
I’m running a series of drawing, painting, portraiture and paper-making workshops at my studio in Ditchling, suitable for ages 13 to 103 and all levels of experience – feeling curious and keen is more important than knowing one end of a paintbrush from the other. All workshops will be for small groups, starting at 10am and ending around 4pm. I supply materials and tea, coffee and biscuits – you can either bring a packed lunch or pop to one of our excellent local cafés or pubs.
Drawing and Painting
We’ll begin with some drawing, working from observation, exploring different media, mark-making, scale, viewpoints etc, then you can choose to spend all day drawing or painting, working from the original source, or move towards abstraction, looking at colour, composition, surfaces etc.
After some initial exercises looking at issues specific to drawing faces, you’ll create a number of drawings working from a live model.
We’ll make a number of small examples of plain, decorative, coloured and cast paper, using pulp that you will make – I’ll also have some ready for you to use. There will be the option of making a small vessel if you wish, which can incorporate other elements, natural or man-made.
- All workshops are currently postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Please get in touch using the form on the Contact page to receive information about new dates as soon as they’re announced.
- Adults (18+) £110
- Young people (13+) £60
I lead sessions for adults and young people at my studio in Ditchling or (in warm weather) at nearby places of interest, with emphasis strongly placed on direct observation and working with a variety of drawing materials. - Classes for young people 11 to 18
- One-to-one coaching / lessons / tutorials
- Support for your individual projects

Sessions for young people last 1½ hours and cost £15 per session, paid termly in advance. Prices for adult sessions depend on number in group. In all cases, prices include most drawing materials and refreshments during the sessions.
In all cases, pre-booking is essential.
You’ll soon be able to click here to pay for sessions online using a credit or debit card, or your PayPal account if you have one.
