Having originally studied at the London College of Printing and at Goldsmith’s College, I taught Art and Design for 15 years from GCSE to degree and post-graduate level. More recently, I completed a three-year course in experimental textile art.
My work has sold privately and commercially in the UK at shops and galleries including Liberty, the South Bank Centre and Leeds Craft and Design Gallery, and in Sweden, Germany, France, New York and San Francisco.
I now work and teach from my studio in Ditchling, East Sussex.
For a selection of high-quality art prints, please visit my online shop. Prints can be shipped worldwide.
I exhibit all year round at Chalk Gallery Lewes. Please come and view my latest work – the gallery is open seven days a week from 10 am to 5 pm.
My studio is usually open each weekend in May from 11 am to 5 pm as part of the Art In Ditchling trail of artists’ open houses during Brighton Festival, showing my latest paintings, drawings, fine-art prints and handmade cards.
Free parking is available at the workshops, in the adjacent Macs’ Farm or behind the village hall, a five-minute walk away in the centre of Ditchling. A pop-up café will be serving refreshments.
I’m running a series of drawing, painting, portraiture and paper-making workshops at my studio in Ditchling, suitable for ages 13 to 103 and all levels of experience – feeling curious and keen is more important than knowing one end of a paintbrush from the other. All workshops will be for small groups, starting at 10am and ending around 4pm. I supply materials and tea, coffee and biscuits – you can either bring a packed lunch or pop to one of our excellent local cafés or pubs.
Drawing and Painting
We’ll begin with some drawing, working from observation, exploring different media, mark-making, scale, viewpoints etc, then you can choose to spend all day drawing or painting, working from the original source, or move towards abstraction, looking at colour, composition, surfaces etc.
After some initial exercises looking at issues specific to drawing faces, you’ll create a number of drawings working from a live model.
We’ll make a number of small examples of plain, decorative, coloured and cast paper, using pulp that you will make – I’ll also have some ready for you to use. There will be the option of making a small vessel if you wish, which can incorporate other elements, natural or manmade.
